General Terms & Conditions

These terms and conditions apply to all students at the School, and you should try to read and understand them. If you need help to understand them please ask a member of the School’s office staff.

General Terms Conditions

General:

Please note that tuition fees do not include fees for external examination fees, accommodation, extra social activities or transport.

Days of opening: We are open for classes each week (with the exception of week ends and public holidays). Students may start classes any day year-round. We recommend that beginners commence their classes any Monday.

Hours of opening:  The School and its facilities are open to all students as follows: 9.00am - 5.00pm (Monday to Friday). Some arranged student activities will take place at the School, outside these times, such as parties and film evenings, and full details of these will be given to all of the School's students.

Length of courses: There is a minimum enrolment period at the School of one week group classes or 10 private classes. The exception to this is renewals of the original program.

Class allocation: We do our best to ensure that students can study at the time chosen. Sometimes this may not be possible and your placement into a class may be different so as to preserve the most effective learning environment for our students. No refunds can be given in such instances.

Tuition hours: The School's ‘four-hour' Group Classes session includes twenty-minute breaks. The actual teaching time is 3 hours and 40 minutes. The School's 'one hour' Private Class session consists of 60 minutes' tuition. The Intensive program includes four-hour of Group Class and one Private Class per day.

Students should note that on the first day of their course, each student is tested so that he/she is placed in a class suited to the level of ability. Because of the tests and class placement, the School cannot guarantee that classes will take place on the first day of the course.

Mobile Phones: Students should ensure that all mobile phones are switched off during classes. We strongly suggest making and answering calls during break periods, or after class ends.

Payment: You must pay in full for tuition (and accommodation and transfer if required) before you can start a course at the School. You will not able to start a class until complete payment has been made. Similarly we must have total payment before we can allocate you with accommodation. Full payment must normally be made at least two weeks before the student's first day in the accommodation.

Bank Charges: As shown on the enrolment form, all students enrolling in the School from outside the Argentina are subject to payment of the School's bank transfer fee.

Document charges: There is a standard for sending documents to the student or his/her representative's address by international courier if so required, for example, by DHL or another courier company.

Transfer Of Payments: Please note that payments made by one student cannot be transferred to another student at the School, except at the discretion of the Principal.

Changes In Course Or Accommodation Arrangements: Course changes from one level to another are free of charge. A charge of USD 25 will be imposed if you continually change the course type and/or the time of day. Obviously students will be placed in, and moved between, classes if necessary to ensure that they are receiving the most appropriate level of tuition for their ability. Such changes must be approved by the Academic Director.

Every effort is made to ensure that students are happy with their accommodation. However in the event that a student wishes to change accommodation, a charge of USD 25 will be made. If the type of accommodation is changed, no refund will be available on home-stay payments.

Refunds

Tuition: If you are refused entry to Argentina by the immigration or visa authorities, or if an extension of your visa is declined, then a full refund will usually be granted. The only exception to this is if the refusal is connected with a breach of the law or a breach of the visa conditions or if a visa is refused as a consequence of not attending the course regularly. Any refund given will exclude the registration fee and accommodation finding fee and bank charges. If you have paid by credit card, bank charges will be deducted from the refund total.

Refund applications must be made in writing accompanied with detailed reasons for the refund request, and any relevant documentary evidence. Original visa refusal documents must be provided. The School reserves the right to seek independent confirmation of visa refusals from the Argentine authorities.

Decisions as to whether a student is entitled to a refund are made on a monthly basis, and written decisions are given. If more information is needed this may result in a delay; in this case, the student will be notified.

Please note that, in the case where a student has booked through an educational agency and is granted a refund, then the refund will be made to the agency and the student should seek a refund from that agency. In cases where students have booked direct, then a refund will be made directly to them.

Accommodation: If you want to leave your home-stay you must tell the school Administration Director and you must give one week's notice. If you cancel your home-stay, you can use your extra accommodation money to pay for more Spanish classes, but you cannot have a cash refund.

IMPORTANT You should kindly be aware that the policy of the School, in common with other similar schools, is to grant refunds only in the case of a visa refusal, and providing specific conditions are met. Any other case is not eligible for a refund and any exceptions to this are entirely at the discretion of the Principal.

Deferring Your Course: If you are not entitled to a refund, you may wish to return to the school at a future date to continue studying in the future. All students should expect that the Immigration Authority will be immediately notified of any course deferrals.

Students' Holidays: All students must notify the School Administration, in advance, before they take a personal holiday. No holidays should be taken without first informing the School Administration. If you do not notify the School Administration you will be marked absent and no refunds will be given in these cases.

Attendance: You will be expected to attend classes every day that the School is open. The School keeps records of the attendance of students. No refunds or credits are given in respect of missed classes.

Accommodation:

Where possible we try and arrange accommodation as close to the school as possible. Students agree that they will leave the accommodation introduced to them by the School immediately if and when they no longer are students of the School. Students not wishing to take up the accommodation organized, must give the school at least one week's notice, otherwise a fee equal to one week’s rent will be charged.

All students should behave well as guests of the family or landlady and should comply with the “Rules of the House” for the home. Students are responsible for any damage or expenses that may be caused by them at the accommodation.

Registration Fees:

The USD 50.- tuition registration fee INCLUDES accommodation finding fee.

Books:

Tuition registration fee includes books and material that students need for their classes.

Group Courses

Group Courses

These classes are small, typically only 3 to 6 students, with similar levels of proficiency. AISL keeps classes small so that we can provide students with lots of personal attention.

AISL recommends the group classes to students who will be making longer visits, especially if they are interested in complementing their language studies with other cultural, sightseeing, and social experiences.

Accomodation

Home-stay

Home-stay

- Accommodation in argentine family homes. Home-stay has the advantage that you can practice your Spanish all the time and learn more about our culture, meeting local people.
- Breakfast is included. Dinner can be provided at home (optional).

- Comfortable private or double rooms, with private or shared bathroom.

AISL chooses your home-stay based on your preferences (smoking/non-smoking; couple with children/no children; etc) and your specific requirements (specific diet, no pets, etc.)

- Students staying with host families have total freedom to come and go as they please since they have their own house key.

- Host families homes are located in neighborhoods close to AISL and the city center. All families have been carefully selected and are monitored so that your home stay experience is to your complete satisfaction. AISL considers the level of culture, hospitality, affection, the comfort of the house, the atmosphere in the family, and the proximity to the school. Living standards are similar to Europe or North America.

- Home-stay is the perfect complement to increase your language learning and achieve complete cultural immersion. It is an opportunity to experience the culture and life-style of Argentina first-hand, and establish new friendships that will last you a lifetime.
